The International Tank Container Organisation (ITCO) was formed in 1998 as a result of the merging of ITCLA (International Tank Container Leasing Association) and EPTA (European Portable Tank Association). ITCO currently maintains an office and secretariat in Belgium.

The purpose of ITCO is to act as a voluntary non-profit trade association representing the international tank container industry to the public and governmental bodies and to advance the interests of the industry. Issues dealt with by ITCO may relate to safety, the publication of technical literature, the use of technology in the industry and raising the profile of the use of tank containers.

Membership includes companies in the tank container manufacturing, leasing, operating and related sectors including tank service providers such as depots, inspection, certification societies and others . ITCO currently represents a substantial segment of the global tank container industry.

ITCO is governed by a Council, consisting of an elected President, Vice President and the Chair and Deputy Chair of each of the five divisions: Lessors, Manufacturers, Tank Container Operators, Tank Container Service Providers and Inspection & Certification Bodies/Others supported by a full time secretary and part-time Technical secretary. It is funded by an annual subscription from the members.

Mission Statement

ITCO's Mission is for Tank Containers to be the preferred method to transport Bulk Liquids/Gases & Powders focusing on quality, safety and environmental issues.

ITCO has taken a major initiative in promoting equipment quality and safety through the development of tank inspection criteria and guidelines. The objective of an industry-wide code of practice is to establish the minimum acceptable standards in the manufacturing, operating and leasing of tank containers.

Governmental / Regulatory Initiatives

Regulations are a major focus for ITCO. Technical experts from the membership are available to represent ITCO at regulatory and industry association meetings worldwide. ITCO Technical Committees consisting of representatives from all five sectors evaluate trends and developments within the industry. ITCO undertakes to communicate with governmental and non-governmental regulatory bodies as well as related industry organizations in order to improve regulations and standards and to safeguard the interests of the tank container industry. ITCO has observer status at the UN and various other governmental and non-governmental regulatory meetings.

Arbitration

ITCO is available as an independent arbitrator on issues relating to codes of practice.

Publications

In keeping with its policy to provide information to the membership of ITCO and to the tank container industry at large, ITCO has published the Tank ACC モAcceptable Container Conditionヤ. Edition 3 of this well established industry guideline is now available in hard copy and on the ITCO website. The ACC describes a carefully structured procedure for the inspection of tank containers and provides guidance for the maintenance of tank containers.

New publications relating to other matters concerning the industry such as Gas Tank Inspection Criteria and Safe Operating Conditions for tank containers are planned.

ITCO maintains a comprehensive website www.ITCO.be. In addition to membership details and organization activities, it also provides information relating to new developments, future and past events and industry codes of practice.
